Author and Finisher of Our Faith | Bible Meaning Revealed!

Hope Love Faith On Wall 900x506

When most people read about the author and finisher of our faith in the bible, they know it’s in reference to God/Jesus. However, most people still wonder about the faith portion of the author/beginning and finisher/end of our faith.

The author and finisher of our faith is referring to God giving every person a portion of faith that they can use to accept Jesus as their Lord and savior. After a person repents of their sin and accepts Jesus into their heart then that portion of faith ends. Now the born again believer lives by the faith of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 12:2, Romans 12:3, 1 Peter 9, Galatians 2:20)

  • Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
  • Romans 12:3 (KJV)  For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
  • 1 Peter 1:9 (KJV)  Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
  • Galatians 2:20 (KJV)  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

This is a mystery that only the Spirit can understand through the word of God aka the Bible. When this truth was revealed it was very exciting! So of course I had to share what God said. However, this is only scratching the surface! So let’s get into this truth.

The Author Begins Our Faith | Bible

Person Holding Bible In Field 900x506

Faith is a subject typically taken at face value and usually in a general context. A wide variety of people only scratch the surface of what the beginning of faith actually means. That being said the beginning of faith is widely misunderstood although most people think they know what it means.

The beginning of faith means that God gives every person a measure of faith whether they are born again or not. He wants them to use this faith to repent of their sin and accept Jesus Christ as Lord. Some will end up using this faith and accept Jesus, while others will not. God gives this measure of faith to everyone because He loves them and knows it’s impossible to please Him without faith. (Romans 12:3, Hebrews 12:2, Hebrews 11:6)

  • Romans 12:3 (KJV)  For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
  • Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
  • Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Jesus is the one who saw you/me and counted it a joy to go to the cross. It was His pleasure to lay down His life for our sin and rise again for our justification. He is even the very one who gives us faith to believe everything He stated about himself and accomplished for us.

Most people think that when they come and believe in Jesus that they somehow made faith appear from their own works. They think they created their own faith and chose to follow Him. This isn’t the case cause God said no one can come unto Jesus unless He draws them.

  • John 6:44 (KJV)  No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

If you’re born again and believe in Jesus according to the Bible, that means you were drawn by the Father! You didn’t come of your own accord or mustard up your own faith to accept and follow Him. You used the measure of faith Jesus/God gave you and was drawn to Jesus by Him.

  • Ephesians 2:7-9 (KJV)  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.  8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

If you haven’t repented of your sin and believed in Jesus according to who He says He is in the Bible, then your not born again. That means you haven’t used the measure of faith according to the purpose God gave you it for. Jesus is the only sacrifice who can remove sin. He is the only way to the Father. God wants you to repent (Change the way you think) and believe in His Son Jesus Christ. Trust Him! He loves you greatly!

Now the scripture talks about how God can’t be pleased without faith. That’s why He gave everyone a measure of faith before they were ever born again. He did this so they can use that faith to come to Him and please Him! It’s His will that all use the faith He gave to be saved through Jesus Christ.

  • 1 Timothy 2:3-6 (KJV)  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;  4  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.  5  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;  6  Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
  • John 5:34 (KJV)  But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.

Although it’s the desire of God for all to be saved the reality is not all will be saved. Some will not use the faith given to them for the purpose God intended. The purpose He has made known on earth which is to repent and accept His Son, Jesus Christ. Only God’s sheep will hear His voice and come. The children of the flesh will not come because their father is of the evil one.

  • John 10:27-28 (KJV)  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:  28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
  • Galatians 4:28-29 (KJV)  Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.  29  But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
  • 1 John 3:12 (KJV)  Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
  • Romans 9:8 (KJV)  That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
  • John 8:44-47 (KJV)  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.  45  And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.  46  Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?  47  He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

You see the children of the promise will use the measure of faith given to them by God and come to Jesus! The children of the flesh will not use the measure of faith to come to Jesus. They will not hear God and choose to follow the stranger’s voice. They will choose to follow their father who is a liar.

In 1 Peter it talks about this measure of faith which is so very precious and of high value. Let’s take a look and break it down.

  • 1 Peter 1:7-12 (KJV)  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:  8  Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:  9  Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.  10  Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:  11  Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.  12  Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

This is a mystery that not a lot of people know or even understand. However, it’s been given to the children of the promise to know this truth.

This measure of faith is more precious than gold or what may seem valuable according to the world’s standards. Notice it talks about this faith being found at the appearing of Jesus Christ. This isn’t a natural seeing with normal eyes because it says who you haven’t seen, you love and right now. In other words, you don’t see, yet you believe.

Remember when Jesus walked on the earth and salvation was right before some of their eyes physically. Some still didn’t see who Jesus was. Some still didn’t know His true identity. Some saw just a man. Some saw a prophet. Some saw a mad man or one with a devil. Some saw a blasphemer. Some saw the king of the Jews or a just man.

  • Matthew 16:13-14 (KJV)  When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?  14  And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
  • John 10:20-21 (KJV)  And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?  21  Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
  • Matthew 27:11 (KJV)  And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
  • Matthew 27:19 (KJV)  When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
  • Luke 5:21 (KJV)  And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

However, some saw Him with the eyes of their heart by the faith which was given to them by God. Some saw the face of God. Some saw God in the flesh. Some saw the anointed messiah. Some saw the only begotten of the Father. Some saw the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Some saw Him as eternal life. Some saw the only salvation for the remission of sins which is the Son of the living God, Jesus Christ.

  • Psalms 67:1-2 (KJV)  To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song. God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.  2  That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
  • Luke 2:27-30 (KJV)  And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,  28  Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,  29  Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:  30  For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
  • John 1:14-16 (KJV)  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.  15  John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.  16  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
  • John 1:29 (KJV)  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
  • John 14:6-9 (KJV)  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  7  If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.  8  Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.  9  Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
  • 1 John 1:1-2 (KJV)  That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;  2  (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
  • 1 John 2:1-2 (KJV)  My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:  2  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
  • Matthew 16:15-16 (KJV)  He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?  16  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

So there are the sheep that hear and know His voice. They will say Jesus came in the flesh and is the Son of God. He is fully God and fully man. He is the face of God. The Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world. He is salvation for all those who believe and trust Him. He is the only atonement for sin. He is the only way to become born again and righteous. He is the only way to the true Father.

The truth is everyone today is born in a fallen state with the sin nature (Except Jesus of course). The only way to get rid of that sin nature is to repent of your sin and confess/believe/follow Jesus as Lord. You give your life to him. He then comes, kills off that old man (sin nature and who you use to be). The old you is now dead! Then He comes and moves in with His nature/righteousness. You’re a new person in Christ Jesus now. Old things pass away and all things become new.

  • Romans 6:4-7 (KJV)  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  5  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:  6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.  7  For he that is dead is freed from sin.
  • Ephesians 3:16-19 (KJV)  That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;  17  That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,  18  May be able to comprehend with all saints what isthe breadth, and length, and depth, and height;  19  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

To some, Jesus is a stumbling block that they keep tripping over. They never use the faith given to them by God according to the purpose it was given. Some won’t come to Jesus based on who He really is. Even though He paid such a high price for them to come back home.

However, some will come based on the true identity of Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life. There is no other way to the Father. When people use the faith given to them by God to repent and accept Jesus as Lord/savior that’s when that faith ends. Jesus has appeared before that person’s eyes and they believed with their heart the truth of who He claimed to be. Now they follow Him. They have returned home. This is considered receiving the end of YOUR faith, the salvation of your soul.

  • 1 Peter 1:9 (KJV)  Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

The End Of One Faith | The Beginning Of The Other Faith

Earlier we discussed how Jesus/God gives every person a measure of faith to repent, believe, and accept Jesus. This is receiving the end of YOUR faith. Most people don’t even know there is an end to one faith and the beginning of the other faith. This is what the Bible describes as going from faith to faith.

Romans 1:17 talks about the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith. The first faith is the portion God has given to all people so they can repent and accept/believe Jesus as Lord/savior. Then that measure of faith ends and you no longer live by your faith but by the faith of the Son of the living God. The just shall live by His faith. (Hebrews 12:2, Romans 12:3, Galatians 2:20)

  • Romans 1:17 (KJV)  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Let’s look into what the scripture says about faith once you’re a born again believer in Christ Jesus.

A good portion of believers think that they are supposed to do their Christian walk according to their own works from their own faith. That’s not what scripture says. Habakkuk prophesied that their will come a time where the just will live BY HIS FAITH.

  • Habakkuk 2:2-4 (KJV)  And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.  3  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.  4  Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
  • Galatians 3:11 (KJV)  But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

We are living in that time where the believers are supposed to live their life in Christ by the faith of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Are you having a hard time grasping that truth? Look at what Paul states here.

  • Galatians 2:20 (KJV)  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Paul knew that he was no longer living life according to the old man or old way of thinking/living. He knew that now Christ was in him. The life he now lived was BY THE FAITH OF THE SON OF GOD!

Paul wasn’t the only believer who understood this truth. So did Peter and John! Basically Peter and John were going to the temple during the hour of prayer and there was a man who was crippled from birth there. This man wanted alms but Peter and John gave him Jesus. The man was healed. Look at what was said.

  • Acts 3:16 (KJV)  And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

They knew it was by the faith of Jesus that made the man whole! That’s exciting but this isn’t the only place where it talks about living life by the faith of Jesus.

  • Romans 3:22 (KJV)  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
  • Ephesians 3:11-12 (KJV)  According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:  12  In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
  • Philippians 3:9 (KJV)  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
  • Colossians 2:12 (KJV)  Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

When a believer gets born again the old way old thinking and way of living has passed away. Now all things have become new through Christ Jesus. We are now living life but it’s not us living in our own strength. It’s Christ living through us. We now live this life by His faith.

Ephesians 4:4-6 (KJV)  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;  5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,  6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

It’s not your faith vs His faith. It simple, you live by His faith. One faith. Look what the scripture states about Jesus.

  • Colossians 2:9-10 (KJV)  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.  10  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

In Jesus dwells the fullness of the Godhead bodily and you’re considered complete in Him according to God. The Bible reveals this truth. Now imagine what that faith looks like! If your a born again believer, that’s now the type of faith your suppose to live by! That’s AMAZING!!!

Repent means to change the way you think. Don’t allow the carnal mindset to rob you from the truth that God says in His Word. The truth about who you are now in Christ Jesus! Allow God’s Word to shape what faith you live by now. If you’re born again it’s by the faith of the Son of God. Allow God’s voice to describe and shape who you are. Which includes how you live according to His faith! Believe it! Receive it! Don’t listen to any other voice that comes against God’s truth because that’s the stranger’s voice.
