Have you ever heard about putting new wine in new wineskins or new wine in new bottles in the bible? This is one of the parables Jesus spoke of to explain the difference between the old and new.
What did Jesus mean when He said new wine must be put in new bottles? Before a person is born again their identity is in the old man (Old Bottles) filled with the sin nature (Old Wine). When a person is born again old things pass away and all things have become new. Their identity is now the new man in Christ (New Bottle) filled the Holy Spirit (New Wine). The old man doesn’t desire the new right away because they think the old is better. The new man renews the mind to who God says they are now in Christ Jesus because the new doesn’t operate from old perspectives. (Matthew 9:17, Mark 2:22, Luke 5:37-39)
- Matthew 9:17 (KJV) Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
- Mark 2:22 (KJV) And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
- Luke 5:37-39 (KJV) And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. 38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. 39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.
That’s the short quick answer. However, there is still more truth to be discovered in relation to this parable. Let’s start by looking into the old bottles filled with old wine in the bible

Old Bottles With Old Wine | The Parable Of The Wineskins In The Bible
To better understand the parable lets look into what the old bottle and the old wine is! When Adam/Eve was deceived in the Garden of Eden by the serpent, things changed. They went against what God said and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This was the tree that God told them not to eat from because they would die. The day they ate was the day they died.
- Genesis 2:17 (KJV) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
- James 1:15 (KJV) Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Now Adam/Eve had a sin problem. They no longer could live the same way they did prior to eating from the tree. So God put enmity between the there serpent’s seed and the woman’s seed. People would now be born with the seed from the serpent. They would be born with the nature of the serpent within them. In other word’s they were born into sin. (Obviously, Jesus was born without sin.)
- Genesis 3:14-15 (KJV) And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
This is the introduction of the old bottles and old wine. Before a person is born again their bottle is the old carnal man of the flesh with the old wine from the serpent. This is who they are and their identity. They are slaves to sin and held captive to unrighteousness.
- Romans 6:16-23 (KJV) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
No man can serve two master. These verses also show the old man before being born again. The old man (old bottle) with the seed of the serpent (old wine) is bound to sin. This is their master. This is their identity, so it’s only natural for this person to live in the carnal flesh and lustful desires of the serpent’s seed. They yield their members to iniquity to iniquity. They couldn’t help themselves because they had the serpent’s seed. Think of it like this, does a fish need to be taught to swim? Does a bird need to be taught to fly? Does a monkey need to be taught to climb? Not necessarily cause it’s in their nature. They are naturally inclined to do these things. They are a slave to it.
- Matthew 6:21-24 (KJV) For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
- Luke 16:13 (KJV) No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
This old bottle with old wine had an old corrupted heart! The old man’s treasure was coming from a corrupted source that had an evil eye full of darkness. In other words, this heart will produce the works/lust of the flesh!
- Genesis 8:21 (KJV) And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
- Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
- Hebrews 3:12-13 (KJV) Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
- Galatians 5:19-21 (KJV) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Where the treasure of the old man is, there will be his wicked heart also! This old bottle and old wine served darkness! The old man has an evil heart of unbelief that departs from the living God! The only way to fix this problem of sin, the only way to fix the old bottles (old carnal man) with old wine (seed of the serpent) is to destroy it!
Destruction Of The Old Bottle With Old Wine | The Parable Of The Wineskins In The Bible
Old bottles are built to contain old wine. Old bottles are not built to contain new wine. Issues arise when people try to put new wine in an old bottle!
What happens when old bottles try to contain new wine? The truth is the old bottle can’t contain new wine cause it gets destroyed! In other words, the old man can’t contain the Holy Spirit. The old man can’t see the face of God and live! In other words, the old bottle or old man can’t contain the presence of God and live! Only the new bottle or new man in Christ Jesus can contain the presence of God! (Matthew 9:17, 2 Samuel 6:6-7, Exodus 33:20)
Let’s take a look at some situations with the old man and the presence of God.
- Matthew 9:17 (KJV) Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
- 2 Samuel 6:6-7 (KJV) And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
- Exodus 33:20 (KJV) And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
There was a time when the presence of God was in the ark. People could not simply come up next to it or touch it. The priests had to handle the ark according to how God required. When Uzzah tried to stop the ark from falling, he ended up being destroyed. The old man/old bottle and way of doing things can’t contain the presence of God. The old man is not built for this role. This is why no man can see God’s face and live. The only way to see God’s face is if the old bottle is destroyed and replaced with a new bottle filled with new wine!
The reality is there was no way for us to change the circumstance we were in since the fall of man on our own. There was no way for us to change our old bottle with old wine! We needed Jesus to help us with that! God loved us so much that He came to destroy the old bottle and old wine! He came to destroy the old man and sin! He came to make us a brand new bottle with filled with new wine! He came to make us a brand new creature in Christ Jesus!
- 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
When a person is born again the old bottle with old wine passes away. The new wine can’t be put in an old bottle! The old bottle must pass away or in other word’s die! This is what Jesus did for us! He destroyed the old man of the flesh and removed us from it! He removed us from the old carnal man of flesh and destroyed the old bottle we use to be!
- Leviticus 12:3 (KJV) And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.
- Colossians 2:11-12 (KJV) In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
According to Leviticus when a male child is born on the eighth day the flesh is removed from them. This is a natural way of showing/expressing what Christ did for born again believers today! Today, Christ circumcises born again believer without hands in a natural sense and removes them from the flesh! In other words, Jesus removes them from the old bottle and destroys it. Jesus puts them in the new bottle in Christ! Their identity now has nothing to do with the flesh because Christ removed the flesh and destroyed it in the fire! Remember it’s appointed for all men to die once. It’s better for that man to die when they get born again through Jesus Christ. Instead of rejecting Jesus and experiencing death later on in the lake of fire.
- Deuteronomy 4:24 (KJV) For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
- Leviticus 9:22-24 (KJV) And Aaron lifted up his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering of the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and peace offerings. 23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people. 24 And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.
- Hebrews 9:24-28 (KJV) For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Now Aaron was only able to enter the holy place by the blood of others. He had to make sure everything was done properly or He would have died in the presence of God because of sin. However, he went in with the intention of blessing himself and the people. Notice the glory of the Lord came out as fire and consumed the burnt offering!
Look what Jesus did to the flesh. Notice no one could take His life from Him. He chose to lay His life down for us.
- John 10:17-18 (KJV) Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
- John 19:1-3 (KJV) Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. 2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, 3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
- Mark 14:65 (KJV) And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
- Mark 15:15-20 (KJV) And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. 16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. 17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, 18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! 19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
- Matthew 26:67 (KJV) Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
- Matthew 27:26-31 (KJV) Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. 29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. 31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
- Luke 22:63 (KJV) And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.
Jesus laid down His life for us, to take care of sin for many. No one took it from Him. Jesus beat the flesh all the way to the Cross. Then nailed the flesh to the Cross, died, and rose again! He did this to destroy the old bottle we were enslaved in! To get rid of the old wine we were filled with! In doing so our old man of flesh is also crucified to the cross and buried! The same fire consumes that old man of flesh that we used to be and destroys it! That same fire destroys the old bottle and old wine! Through Jesus, believers have been removed from the flesh and that old man’s flesh is destroyed!
- Romans 6:3-10 (KJV) Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
When a person is born again, Jesus takes their old bottle of flesh with that old wine which is the serpent’s seed and destroys it! Our old flesh is crucified with Christ and buried! It’s died off to never be revived again! That old man is consumed by the fire of God because it was never meant to be a part of us! Born again believers are mean to be in Christ Jesus. They are mean to be in a new bottle with new wine!
- Colossians 2:13-15 (KJV) And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
- 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
What was nailed to the cross? Jesus. Jesus who knew no sin, took our sin and was made to be sin for us. Jesus nailed the flesh and sin to the cross, see? Jesus nailed the old bottle with old wine to the cross, see? He destroyed the old man we use to be because His purpose was to remove our sin and save us. Jesus made us to be the righteousness of God in Him because of what He did for us, see? When a person is born again through Jesus they are forgiven of all trespasses. Jesus made us a new bottle in Him and filled us with His new wine! Jesus nailed the flesh to the Cross and created us a new man!
New Bottles With New Wine | The Parable Of The Wineskins In The Bible
New bottles are created with the purpose of containing new wine. The new wine can only be put in a new bottle! Without a new bottle, the new wine can’t be contained.
What is the bible explanation of new bottles with new wine? Jesus understood that without a new bottle, the new wine could not come live inside! In order to create a new bottle, He had to destroy the old bottle and remove the old wine. This is why Jesus said it’s better for us that He goes away so that He could send the Holy Spirit to come live inside the born again believer. (Mark 2:22, John 16:7, Ephesians 2:12-18)
- Mark 2:22 (KJV) And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
- John 16:7 (KJV) Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
- Ephesians 2:12-18 (KJV) That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Jesus brought peace back to those He saves by His blood. He abolished the enmity and broke down the wall of partition that was keeping us from God! In doing so He made us one new man or bottle in Him! This established peace for us with the Father. The new bottle is filled with new wine! We now have access by one Spirit unto the Father!
The old man (Old Bottle) with sin nature (Old Wine) passed away! God now created born again believers as a brand new bottle, which is the new man in Christ, and fills us with the new wine which is the Holy Ghost. God has given the new man a new pure heart and cleansed them. Christ is now in their hearts and they shall see God!
- John 3:3 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
- Ezekiel 36:25-27 (KJV) Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
- Matthew 5:8 (KJV) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
- 2 Corinthians 1:22 (KJV) Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
- Ephesians 3:16-21 (KJV) That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what isthe breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
The new man who is born again has a new heart and sees God. They are a new bottle filled with new wine! They no longer see things from the old man’s (old bottle’s) perspective. God removed the old heart that couldn’t see Him and replaced it with a new heart and moved in! This is why He made a new bottle and which was spotless and clean. This is why the Holy Spirit came. The new man is now straightened with by the Holy spirit because the Holy Spirit dwells in their heart by faith!
- Galatians 4:5-7 (KJV) To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
The new man is now considered a son of God! The new man is now considered and heir of God through Christ! The new man is now a new bottle filled with new wine! The new man is obedient unto God! The new man obeys from the new heart! The new man has been made free from sin and is a servant of righteousness! This is all because of Jesus who gave made us the new man/new bottle filled with the new wine/Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit produces and grows the fruit of the Spirit in their life! This new man now lives in the Spirit and no longer lives in the flesh!
- Galatians 5:22-25 (KJV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Born again believers are now considered the temple of the Holy Ghost! They are a new bottle build to hold the new wine! Just like the priests in the old covenant stewarded the presence of God in the ark, the new man stewards the presence of God within them through Jesus Christ! This is why God has made the new man a priest!
- 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
- Revelation 1:5-6 (KJV) And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
- Revelation 5:10 (KJV) And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Just like we spoke about earlier a priest could enter the Holy place with the blood of others. In our case the blood of Jesus. The priests were the ones which worked directly with the presence of God. They stewarded the presence of God. If we were not made into priests then we would not be able to carry the presence of God! Today Jesus has made born again believers priests! He knew the new wine which is the Holy Spirit was on the way to come live inside the new bottles which is the new man in Christ! Therefore we now get to steward the presence of God and be a blessing to others wherever we go! We get to bring the kingdom of God nigh to others wherever we go! We get to share the good news about what Jesus did and give people the Kingdom by the Holy Spirit! The Lord confirming signs and wonders as we go!
- Romans 14:17 (KJV) For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
- Luke 17:21 (KJV) Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
- Matthew 10:7-8 (KJV) And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
- Luke 10:8-9 (KJV) And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
- Mark 16:14-20 (KJV) Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
If you’re born again God already knows and believes what He did for you happened. He knows it happened just like how it is written in The Word of God. Do you believe it? Jesus made you a new bottle with new wine, do you feel like your still the old bottle with old wine? Do you believe you’re a new man full of the Holy Ghost? God said no one who has drunk the old desires the new at first. Let’s look into this!
No One Desires The New Wine At First | The Parable Of The Wineskins In The Bible
No person who has drunk the old wine desires the new right away. In other words, no one who has lived life according to the sin nature desires to live life according to God’s nature right away.
Why does it seem like the born again believer doesn’t desire the new at first? Everyone has fallen short and drunk the old wine at some point, except Jesus of course. When a person is born again through Jesus all things become new. Jesus has given them everything pertaining to life and godliness. This means the believer has a new way of thinking called the spiritual mind. The believer no longer thinks according to the carnal mind, which tries to speak saying the old is better. The mind needs to be renewed according to the word of God. As a believer understands the truth about the old way of thinking, the carnal mind becomes exposed for the lies it tries to speak! As the Holy Spirit teaches and reveals the truth about Jesus, the believer’s desires become manifest that they love the things of God! (Luke 5:37-39, Romans 12:2, John 14:26, 2 Peter 1:3-4)
- Romans 3:23 (KJV) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
- Romans 12:2 (KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
- John 14:26 (KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
- 2 Peter 1:3-4 (KJV) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
When a person is born again the Holy Ghost becomes their teacher! Before being born again the old bottle with old wine was their teacher. The old man was led and taught by the carnal mind. The old man was led by the nature of sin. Now the Holy Spirit begins to teach and reveal the truth to the believer and the new man filled with new wine! This is because all the gifts and promises of God has been given to the new man in Christ through the knowledge of Jesus. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth so the believers know what they have now and exposes the lies of the old carnal mind!
The new bottle and new wine aren’t led by old desires. This is a whole new reality and way of thinking that born again believers need to learn from the Holy Ghost! Will you humble yourself as a child to understand and know the new way in Christ? A child who can be taught according to what Jesus has done for you? To be taught what has been given to you? To understand things according to the new bottle and new wine by the Holy Ghost? Only the Holy Ghost can teach and reveal the truth about your real desires in Him!
- Matthew 18:4 (KJV) Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Think of it like this does a baby jump out of the womb running a marathon, using the restroom in the proper location, speak the same language with the family? No! They have no clue about these things because they haven’t been taught or understand yet. They don’t know any better. The parent begins to teach their child. They teach them how to crawl and eventually walk. They teach them not to use the restroom in their diaper or in the bed and make a mess but instead go to the restroom. They have no clue how to speak a language so the parent teaches them letters, syllables, and words to form sentences.
The point is the child had everything they needed to do all these things from day one, whether the desire was there or not! They had legs but didn’t know how to walk. They had a restroom down the hall to poop and pee. However, they didn’t know the purpose of it so they wet the bed and used the restroom in their diaper or even on their parent! They had a tongue and mouth but had no clue how to communicate so they just spoke whatever they wanted to, whenever they wanted to, however they wanted to and they didn’t even know what they were saying! In other words, as they were taught by their parent the knowledge of these things they grew in such a way that the outside world saw the fruit and they did too!
Just like this, the Holy Spirit begins to teach us what has been given to us by Jesus Christ! He begins to teach us the way of the new bottle with new wine. Everything is ours we just need help knowing and understanding the truth. At first, there may be a desire trying to say the old way is better! The reality is those thoughts and feelings are a lie! This is why the Holy Spirit tells us what our true desires are. Our desires now come from God which works in us to both will and do of His good pleasure! If we don’t know or understand what Christ did for us then we will just look like a baby who made a mess! The only way to know the truth is based on what The Word says. This is why Holy Spirit teaches us as babes in Christ to now desire the milk of The Word. This desire of The Word will help us grow in the truth and reality of God!
- Philippians 2:13 (KJV) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
- 1 Peter 2:2 (KJV) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
The truth is there are two different mindsets. One mindset desires the old while the other desires the new. The carnal mindset which is old and passed away. Then the Spiritual mindset which has been given to the new bottle or new man in Christ!
- 1 Corinthians 2:16 (KJV) For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Notice the verse says who hath known! If you know the truth about the new mind Jesus gave you then you can now be instructed! As born again believers are instructed and begin to understand the truth. What used to “feel” like a “desire” for the old begins is exposed as a lie! The true desires of God become more real and firm as the Holy Spirit helps us to understand and know the way of the new bottle with new wine through Jesus Christ!
- Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
- Romans 8:6-7 (KJV) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
- Colossians 3:2-3 (AMP) Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. 3 For you died [to this world], and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.
Not every thought that pops in a believer’s head is theirs! If that was the case then The Word wouldn’t tell us to set the mind on things above! The new bottle with new wine sets the mind on things above. How can you tell if it’s an old carnal thought or a new spiritual thought? The only way to discern the source of the thought is according to The Word! It’s simple to tell which thoughts are the born again believers because their thoughts line up with The Word! This is the new bottle with new wine’s thought process! The thoughts that come that are enmity and against God’s Word are not the born again believer’s thoughts! That’s the old bottle and old wine’s thought process!
The truth is if the mind is left alone and not renewed with The Word of God it will conform to the ways of the world.
Think of it like this, there was a person who was in trouble financially and needed help paying some bills. A friend of theirs sent some money over to there bank account via pay pal, zelle, wire transfer etc. The friend shoots them a text letting them know to check their bank account because they sent some money to help them for the month. However, the person in need of the money never received the text cause they didn’t pay the bill on time. After a few days of not hearing a reply back, the friend gets concerned and goes to their buddy’s house to find them extremely stressed out because they are about to lose the house due to an upcoming bill. The friend tells them I sent you some money that should cover everything and it’s in your bank account!
The money was there for days but they were so stressed out cause they didn’t know the truth! They may have even lost the house if the friend didn’t come to share the knowledge that there was money in their bank account now for the bills for the month!
The carnal mind doesn’t want the new bottle that’s filled with new wine to know and understand what Jesus gave them! The carnal mind is enmity towards God and is not subject to the laws of God! It can’t be!
Since the carnal mind will try to make you think that you desire the old bottle and old wine, choose to set your mind on things above instead! Decide to think according to The Word now! Accept God’s Word as your filter for your thoughts. Your thoughts are the spiritual mind and the discerner of thoughts that separate the carnal mind and spiritual mind is The Word of God!
The new bottle with new wine doesn’t operate the way the old did. The new thinks in a different fashion. The new think according to The Word and allows God to discern the source from which the thought came! Knowing this, let’s see what Jesus says about the new bottle now with new wine now!
- John 1:12-13 (KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
- Revelation 21:7 (KJV) He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
- Revelation 12:11 (KJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Through Jesus, the new bottle with the new wine is now considered sons of God! They are not born of the flesh or will of man. They are born again of the will of God! Through the blood of Jesus and the word of their testimony, they have overcame! That old bottle and old life they loved no more because it died!
When the new wine aka Holy Ghost begins to reveal the knowledge of what Jesus did it’s a game changer! We can then know and understand what Jesus has already given us! God now calls the new bottle (New man) with new wine (His presence inside) His sons! The Father said they shall inherit all things! Not some, but all!
Let’s look at some fruit and desires that grows on a son’s tree through the knowledge of Jesus.
- 2 Peter 1:5-8 (KJV) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Galatians 2:20 (KJV) I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
A son is quickly supplied/furnished with the faith of Jesus which brings a good course of thought, feelings, and actions. The Holy Ghost reveals/teaches these truths which brings knowledge. When a son has knowledge/understanding they realize they have self-control. When a son knows they have self-control they also realize they have perseverance which means to cheerfully endure. When a son knows they cheerfully endure then they know they have godliness. When a son understands they have godliness then they know they also have brotherly love. When a son knows they have brotherly love then they realize they also have agape love!
When Holy Spirit reveals the truth to a son, the son recognizes what has already been given to them by God through the Lord Jesus Christ! When a son knows these things then the fruit/desires will also be visible for all to see! They will no longer be unfruitful in the knowledge of Jesus Christ! Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to know and understand what Jesus has given you. That’s what a son does, they say abba Father and the Father answers!
- Galatians 4:6 (KJV) And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
What about those who lack these things?
- 2 Peter 1:9 (KJV) But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
They forget… That old desire of the carnal mind thinks the old is better but the old is blind! The point is to keep the mind renewed according to God’s Word!
The new bottle with new wine is a son. A son is given all things from the Father! The Holy Ghost teaches so a son knows whats been giving through Jesus the first born.
What are some things the Father has given us through Jesus? What are some things we have inherited now?
Sins Removed/Righteousness Given
- Romans 3:21-26 (KJV) But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
- 1 John 3:5 (KJV) And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
- Romans 5:19 (KJV) For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
- Psalms 103:12 (KJV) As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
- Romans 3:26 (KJV) To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Life/Eternal Life/Health
- John 17:3 (KJV) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
- 1 John 5:20 (KJV) And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
- John 5:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
- John 10:28 (KJV) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
- John 8:51 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
Power/Domion/Authority
- Psalms 115:16 (KJV) The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
- John 17:2 (KJV) As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
- John 14:12 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Born again believer, just remember the old bottle with old wine has passed away and you are now a new bottle filled with new wine! Your new desires now line up with God’s desires. Any other desire is apart from The Word according to the old man is not you! Now that you know the truth in this regard the light has exposed the hidden that has fooled many in times past. Be blessed in Jesus name!
